The Parochial Church Council (PCC) at St Georges Church is aware of its obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and is committed to processing your data fairly, securely and transparently.

This privacy policy sets out our responsibilities and makes you aware of your rights under the GDPR for your data that we process. It details the types of data we hold about you, how we use it, how long we keep it for and who we share it with.

YOUR PERSONAL DATA – WHAT IS IT?

Personal data relates to personal details of a living individual who can be identified from that information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession. The processing of personal data is governed by The General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (the ‘GDPR’).

THE DATA CONTROLLER

The PCC is a data controller and decides how your data is used. The PCC can be contacted through the Contact Us page on the St George's Church website or by writing to St George's PCC, 86 Rogers Road, Dagenham, RM10 8JX.

OUR DATA PROCESSING PRINCIPLES

In holding your data, we will:

  • Only collect what is necessary for the purposes of maintaining your relationship with St Georges Church and participating in its activities

  • Process your data fairly, lawfully and in a transparent way

  • Ensure it is correct and up to date

  • Use it only for the purposes we have told you

  • Keep it only for as long as it is needed

  • Keep it confidential. It will only be shared with third parties where it is necessary for the performance of our tasks or where you first give us your prior consent.

WHAT DATA DO WE PROCESS?

Personal data we hold about you may include:

  • Your name and address

  • Your email address

  • Your phone number(s)

  • Your image

HOW WE COLLECT YOUR DATA

We may collect your personal data in a number of ways. For example:

  • By giving us your contact details on a consent form

  • By applying to be included on the St George's Church electoral roll

  • By registering yourself or a member of your family for an activity run by St George's Church, for example a children's club or holiday club

  • By agreeing to have your photo taken, for example so that you can be included on the church family photo board in the church building, or for publicity

WHY WE PROCESS YOUR DATA

We process your data for a variety of purposes. For example:

  • To be able to communicate with you about the news, events and activities of St George's Church

  • To share your contact details among St George's Church members to enable the church family to keep in contact with each other

  • To maintain St George's Church electoral roll

  • To maintain Gift Aid records

  • To include you on the church family photo board in the church building

SHARING YOUR DATA

Your personal data will be treated as confidential. The only ways it is released to other people is:

  • In the St George's Church directory, if you have agreed to be included in it. This is only circulated among members of St George's Church

  • In the St George's Church electoral roll, which is only displayed in the church building

  • In Gift Aid claims to HM Revenue and Customs, if you have make donations to St George's Church under Gift Aid

We do not share your data in any other way with any other person or body.

HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR DATA?

We will only keep your data for as long as it is necessary for fulfilling the needs for which it was collected.

  • St George's Church directory - We update the church directory usually on an annual basis and will ask for your consent to keep your details in the directory

  • St George's Church electoral roll - This is refreshed every six years and you will be asked if you wish to be included in it

  • Gift Aid declarations - These will be kept until they are no longer valid, plus six years

YOUR RIGHTS IN RELATION TO YOUR DATA

The law on data protection gives you certain rights in relation to the data we hold about you. These are:

  • The right to be informed. This means we must tell you what data we hold about you and how we use it. With this privacy notice, we fulfil that obligation.

  • The right of access. You have the right to access the data about you. To get a copy of the data we hold about you, please make a request.

  • The right for any inaccuracies to be corrected. If any data that we hold about you is inaccurate or out of date, you have a right to request us to make corrections.

  • The right to have part of your data deleted. If you are of the opinion that we have no reason to continue processing your data, you have a right to ask us to delete it from our systems.

  • The right to restrict the processing of your data. Where there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your data, you can request that a restriction be placed on further processing (while we still hold the data) until the inaccuracy is corrected.

  • The right to withdraw your consent to the processing at any time if consent was obtained as a processing condition. However, this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdraw your consent.

  • The right to data portability. This means you can request us to provide you your personal data by transmitting it directly to another data controller.

  • The right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

OUR EMAIL MESSAGES TO YOU

You can ask us to stop sending you emails at any time by contacting us at the email address from which the message was sent to you or by following the opt-out links on any communication message we send to you.

FURTHER PROCESSING

If we wish to use your personal data for a new purpose, not covered by this privacy notice, then we will provide you with a new notice explaining this new use prior to commencing the processing and setting out the relevant purposes and processing conditions. Where and whenever necessary, we will seek your prior consent to the new processing.
